The Official Opening of the Battle of Coral/Balmoral and Richard Nordon VC Memorial will be held in Gundagai on Thursday 14 May 2026, marking the completion of a significant community-led commemorative project. The memorial honours the Battle of Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral, the largest and longest battle fought by Australian forces during the Vietnam War, and commemorates Gundagai’s own Victoria Cross recipient, Private Richard Nordon VC, DCM. Located in Carberry Park, the memorial features interpretive displays and a bronze statue depicting Nordon’s act of bravery during the battle in May 1968.
