Movie Screening: Lindley’s Last Ride

Lindley’s Last Ride is a compelling documentary that chronicles the enduring legacy of the Lindley family, whose resilience and dedication have kept the tradition of alpine cattle droving alive in the northern Snowy Mountains of New South Wales.

For over a century, the Lindleys have embarked on an annual pilgrimage from their home in Gundagai to their freehold grazing property within the Kosciuszko National Park. This journey, undertaken each December, allows their cattle to graze on the lush native pastures of the high plains during the summer months—a practice that has become increasingly rare in modern times.

The documentary delves deep into the family's history, tracing their roots back to Thomas Lindley, a convict transported to New South Wales in 1832. After serving his sentence, Thomas established a life in Gundagai, running the Rose Inn with his young family. Tragedy struck in 1852 when a devastating flood of the Murrumbidgee River claimed the lives of his wife, four children, workers, and travelers. A plaque now marks the site of this heartbreaking event, symbolizing the family's resilience in the face of adversity .
